4.Where are the jobs located?  There are a variety of positions available throughout the state.  Each district also has various highway maintenance facilities and construction project offices located throughout the district.

5.What if I want to apply in more than one location?  You may have your application considered in a total of three locations in the state by checking the appropriate locations.  (An application placed at either the Central Office or District 5 Office in Jefferson City will be considered for job openings at BOTH of these locations.)

If you choose more than one location, send your application to your first preference where it will be entered into the department-wide system and kept on file for six months.

Applicants interested in a civil engineering career may contact the civil engineer recruiter toll free at 1-877-605-1435 to discuss available locations.

6.How can I check to see what jobs are open? Vacant positions are advertised on our Web site at www.modot.org. When you become aware of a career opportunity within the department, you should contact the Human Resources Division to request that your application be considered for that position. Click here for a list of district human resources locations and contact information.

7.How long will my application be considered? Your application will be kept on file for six months.  You may renew it for a second six-month period by a written or verbal request.  If your application is over one year old, we ask you to complete a new form.

8.If I provide a copy of my resume, do I need to fill out an application? Yes.  We consider a resume as supplemental to our application, since the application contains important information not normally included in resumes.

9.How does the job-selection process work?  If you have applied for a specific job vacancy, your application is analyzed to determine the level of your knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to the position you have applied for.  The screening process is detailed and can be time consuming. You will be notified if you are selected for an interview or that your application is not being considered for further review.

10. What can I expect if selected for an interview?  Interviews are most commonly conducted in person.  A telephone interview may be arranged under special circumstances.  The department uses a panel interview process.  The purpose of the panel is to bring objectivity and differing perspectives into the selection process. Ensuring we are hiring individuals for the position who foster our core values.

11.If I am selected for a position, what types of background checks are conducted?  All external applications must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check after being given a conditional offer of employment for either a wage or salaried job.  A medical examination is required unless the applicant is offered a summer, intern, or emergency position.  The pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and medical examination are paid by the department.  External applicants should not resign from current employment until informed by a representative from the Missouri Department of Transportation that pre-employment testing has been passed.

12.How long are job vacancies posted? Available job opportunities are posted daily on the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) job opportunities web page, for typically a minimum of 14 calendar days.
