The
traffic systems operator assists in operations
of computer traffic surveillance and control systems to
provide traffic control for urban freeway and arterial traffic.
Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
High School Diploma or GED.
Must have computer related skills and ability to perform
on computer related software applications: such as word
processors, databases, and web based applications.
One year of experience in routine or special maintenance
with some experience in traffic control situations and/or
positions involving dispatching.

Special
Working conditions/Job Characteristics:
Monitoring
system resources and computer applications to quickly detect
and identify incidents or hazardous conditions along the
interstate and disseminating information regarding incidents,
coordinating with emergency response units, and maintaining
a working knowledge of computer system applications and
procedures.
The
ability to work flexible hours, rotating shifts, and or
on-call support to meet the demands of the traffic operations
center, which will include night and weekend hours.
The
positions is a 3rd shift position, which will require overnight
work and may include weekend hours.
Requires
substantial hours of computer monitoring.
