MoDOT Seeks Public Input on I-29/I-35 Improvements

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation seeks community input on alternatives for improving the I-29/I-35 corridor north of downtown at a public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 from 4-7 p.m.

MoDOT is working with HNTB and other local engineering firms on an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Location Study on the corridor from north of the Missouri 210 interchange, south to the Paseo Bridge and west to the Broadway Bridge.

The study was launched to address congestion and safety needs, as well as planning for future travel needs, especially in regards to the future of the Paseo Bridge.

At the public meeting, which will be held at the North Kansas City Community Center at Armour Boulevard and Iron, engineers will present options for widening the road, improving interchanges and coordinating with the downtown loop.   Additionally, they will present three options for long-term improvements to the Missouri River crossing.

Among the options to be considered are rehabilitating the Paseo Bridge, building a companion structure in conjunction with rehabilitation or building an entirely new crossing.

Details on projected budgets and proposed timelines for the options will be available.   Project team members will take comments from the public on how to address residents' concerns about the corridor and the study.

Comments will also be accepted by email at I29I35EIS@hntb.com, or by calling MoDOT district headquarters at 816-622-6500.  Those comments will be used to help MoDOT respond to community concerns and develop a long-term solution that meets improvement needs while minimizing negative impacts.

The formal EIS process calls for a public hearing to review the recommended alternatives.   That hearing is expected to take place in late 2006.
