Work Zone Awareness Week - April 19-23 |
Motorists will again experience a good deal of road and bridge construction on Missouri highways in 2010. More than 250 bridges are scheduled for construction this year under MoDOT’s Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, a statewide effort to repair or replace more than 800 of Missouri's worst bridges by the end of 2013. Almost all of the bridges will be closed to speed construction and control costs. Drivers should consult the Safe & Sound interactive map for construction schedules, detour routes and other project details.
Statewide, work continues on a number of economic stimulus projects, as well as the Better Roads, Brighter Future program that is improving 5,600 miles of roadway by the end of 2011. The St. Louis area will be especially busy with highway improvements and crews will be working nights and weekends on every interstate in the area.
Because these improvements translate into many work zones across the state, here are a few things MoDOT is doing to help keep you out of traffic jams this construction season:
The Traveler Information Map lets you see active work zones before you get in your car so you can plan your trip accordingly.
Rate Our Work Zones – This form allows you to tell us how we can improve our work zones and keep traffic moving.
Operation Orange is our signature effort to turn significant Missouri landmarks orange to draw attention to work zone safety. More than 90 buildings and landmarks throughout the state participated last year by either sporting orange or posting signs or messages urging motorists to drive safely in work zones.
Multimedia – We use radio and internet advertising and our changeable message boards to remind travelers to be alert and drive safely in work zones. We also place information at service stations.
